Spring time is right around the corner and that means redfish will be rolling on to the flats. High tides and warmer water will make for some great fly fishing on the Laguna Madre. We do have clear water over the area, so we should have ample sight-casting opportunities along the King Ranch Shoreline and in shallow areas of the Laguna Madre associated with spoil humps and similar features. Clear skies, moderate winds and clear water make for the best sight-casting. Crab and shrimp patterns work great when casting at redfish and trout. Best bet is to cast your fly out in front of and beyond the redfish and strip them into their sight, using a medium retrieve. If conditions don't favor looking for fly fishing on shallow shorelines and humps, places like the grassy flats behind the bars on the south shoreline of Baffin Bay often produce excellent action on both trout and redfish this time of year.
